Will performance ads work for your store?

The arithmetic behind whether anyone can profitably fund Google Shopping ads for you. You do not need to know your cost per click. We supply ours.

Fashion & Apparel typically works at 12% - 20%.

Does not clear on this channel

This does not close on the arithmetic, and that is not a verdict on your store.

  • Each sale takes about 83 clicks.
  • At 12% commission, that sale earns us $12.
  • Those clicks cost about $19.

We would be spending $19 to earn $12. No commission rate fixes that on its own. To break even we would need 21%, and 21% of a $100 order is $21.

That is far outside any rate we would ask you to accept, and we are not going to pretend otherwise.

That is the entire reason, and it is arithmetic rather than an opinion about your store. It is the same sum every funded-ad-spend model has to do, including the ones that do not show you the working. Plenty of profitable, well-run, growing stores land here. Low order values and paid search are a bad combination, and that is a fact about paid search.

What would change it

At your conversion rate and commission rate, this starts to work at an average order value of about $176. That is $76 more per order than today. Conversion rate does the identical job: at $100 and 12%, it clears at about 3.5% site-wide.

Neither is a small ask at your numbers. We would rather say that than sell you a bundles app and a maybe.

How we got this

Your conversion rate, adjusted

You gave us 2.0%, which is your whole site: branded search, direct visits, email and returning customers. Shopping traffic is colder than that, so we work from 1.2%, which is 60 percent of it. We would rather be careful here than tell you yes and change our mind later.

Our cost per click

$0.23 per click. Measured across every vertical we run. We do not have enough click volume in Fashion & Apparel to quote it separately, so we are using the overall figure rather than inventing one. Measured 2026-09-01. Figures are in US dollars.

The formula

most we can bid = (order value x commission rate x conversion rate) / 1.1

This is the same arithmetic we publish on the model page. Our internal target is 105 to 110 percent of spend. See the model page.

Frequently Asked Questions

Why do you not ask for my cost per click?
Because the number that matters is ours, not yours. If you run your own Google Ads you know your cost per click, but that is a different auction position at a different bid ceiling than the one we would bid at for you. Using your figure would make the answer wrong rather than just harder to fill in. So we supply ours, and we show it to you further down the page.
Where does your cost-per-click figure come from?
It is measured across our own portfolio, not estimated. The current figure covers 92 stores and 40,951 clicks over a 90-day window, and the page shows the date it was measured. We do not publish a separate figure per vertical because only three verticals in our book have enough click volume for that number to mean anything, and quoting a vertical average off three stores would be worse than quoting the overall one.
Why did you lower my conversion rate?
The conversion rate on your Shopify dashboard is whole-site. It includes branded search, direct visits, email and returning customers, which is the warmest traffic you have. Google Shopping traffic is colder and comparison-shopping by nature, so we work from 60 percent of your site-wide figure. Our internal risk engine applies the same adjustment, which is the point: we would rather be careful here than tell you yes and change our mind after you install.
My store came out as "does not clear". Does that mean you will never work with us?
No. It means the sum does not close at the numbers you entered, and the page shows you the exact order value and conversion rate at which it would. Order value is usually the fastest of those to move. Plenty of profitable, well-run stores land here, because low order values and paid search are a bad combination and that is a fact about paid search rather than about your store. If you think our click cost is wrong for your niche, tell us.
Is this the same check you run internally?
It is the same arithmetic, and the internal one is more precise. Once you are installed we use your real measured conversion rate over a rolling window with a confidence interval around it, rather than a single number you typed in, and we use your own measured cost per click once there is enough click volume to trust it. So the internal verdict can disagree with this page in either direction. This page is deliberately the stricter of the two.
